Woodbridge Museum has launched a new series of illustrated local history booklets, exploring fascinating stories from the town’s past. The first titles are now available from the museum shop, with more planned.
Substantial Archive of Local Maps
Woodbridge Museum has received a valuable collection of historic local maps dating from 1905 to the 1960s, helping to preserve an important record of the changing landscape of Woodbridge and the surrounding area.
The Chapel That Moved
When a legal dispute threatened the future of Melton Methodist Chapel in 1861, local millwright Henry Collins came up with an extraordinary solution – move the entire building. The remarkable feat was captured in one of the oldest photographs in Woodbridge Museum’s collection.
When the River Deben Froze Over
This remarkable photograph captures an extraordinary winter in 1895, when the River Deben froze solid enough for people to stand on the ice. Among those pictured is Arthur Fairweather, owner and editor of the Woodbridge Reporter.

A recently donated postcard album has revealed a previously unseen photograph of the damage caused by the Zeppelin raid on Woodbridge in August 1915.
Can You Help Identify This Model Ship?
A beautifully crafted model ship has been donated to Woodbridge Museum and may have been made by local sailor and model maker William Woodruffe. We are keen to learn more about its history and would welcome any information from the community.
